About the Author – Illustrator
Sunny Sommerset, Author-Illustrator is the pen name for Karen Thomas. 2024 winner of the SCBWI SF South Golden Gate Writer’s Award for Best Picture Book Manuscript and also a finalist for Portfolio Showcase – Best in Show. In 2022, she was a finalist for the People’s Choice Portfolio Award at the SCBWI SF South Golden Gate Conference. In 2021, she was accepted into the SCBWI Nevada Mentorship for her middle-grade sci-fi novel. She is currently in a mentorship with The Illustration Department and participates in classes with SVS and Schoolism. She volunteers as the web administrator for the SCBWI SF South Chapter.
